lasers from space – part two

Part one here.
Now that the presents have been unwrapped and all bets are off, I can finally post these medallions that I made on the laser cutter, from old vinyl records.
My brothers and sisters together form the names Duus, Olsen & Lysgaard, and the medallions are kinda faux-lawfirm-looking, with each of our creative fields cut into them.
Happy holidays folks, hope everyone got proper stuffed!

Boogie down Bombay

Just (semi-)finished this drawing. Don’t know exactly what to do with it yet, i think I’ll use it for my upcoming dj concepts.

the form is nicked from an old photo, so I can’t take credit for putting a boom box in the hands of some chick in a hijab. It’s mostly a study in linework and shading techniques, as well as getting comfortable with digital drawing (this is all drawn on a Wacom tablet).

I drew it in pretty hi-res, so i suppose I could introduce some more colours, and screen print it. Would that be cool? Any ideas?

Vinyls and lasers equals awesome

I’ve done some work with the laser cutter at school, and man, is that thing awesome! I can’t post everything at once, due to some… Christmas present issues, but this I can show; the REWIND! medallions. These will be distributed among the select few Djs who have grazed our club with their presence over the years.

rewind shot

A lot of you are probably familiar with REWIND!, but for those who are not, it has been the label that myself among others have placed on a lot of our DJ shows over the last years. I am, however, announcing that I’m putting this concept on ice for now, I’ll be starting a brand new concept come january, with some fresh blood in the mix. So these can be considered our retirement gold watch. You’ll get the whole story on the new concept later, though.

The medallions have been cut from my crates full of rubbish music from the 70′s. These ones were actually cut from a Julio Englesias record (Libra, if you must know). Its kinda cool the way the material makes you look twice, I think.
Sorry for posting so little pictures, but when all presents are opened and all surprises are out, I can give you the whole thing.

Film scans

I got some more old rolls back from the labs, this time loads of cross processed 35mm LCA. And let me stress this: These come straight from my scanner, no photoshopping or other post production of any kind.
Some of these are from my time at KiB (Bergen school of arts), like this one:

fjell

The story behind this one is that we were given a task to create a merging of the natural and the synthetic, so we made a bear out of moss and branches. You might see it, striding over the big rock:

bjorn

Others are just pretty ‘cus the missus is in them:
heidu

Here’s the lowdown:

If anyone is into Ffffound and dropular and stuff, stop by and say hi! Here’s a spotify playlist for you too, even though some of these tracks are pretty embarrassing I guess. Happy sundays guys!

Action update

Just wanted ‘yall to know, I’ll be hard at work in the silk screening workshop for two weeks with the guys, trying to re-invent the craft. Expect some incredulously awesome prints to come forth when we finish.

EDIT: All done! Here are one of the prints i was kinda happy about. The technique is partly regular silk screening, part werd silk screening. Par example, I used masking tape directly on wet emolution and ripped it off to make some kind of rocky texture.

This print is available for purchase in the new store, if you would like one. Only 16 prints made, and this is a three color print, making it a bit more fancy than usual.

Lots of Holga love

film_120_3-3
Just got some wonderful rolls back from the lab!

It’s been a while since i was the most active lomographer in the country, but i still cling to all my old cameras. Digital photography is convenient, but seriously, if you want all the warmth and.. i dunno, goodness, of photography, film is the only way to go.

Unfortunately, when everyone else in the world have gone digital, developing film is a bit harder. Plus, i mostly shoot on cross processed 120-film, which is kinda like showing up at a party as the dj with.. cassettes or something. You get the idea.

When i finally found a shop that would take my funky films (after 1 phone call, 2 emails and a trip to every single photo shop in town), it turns out my film is being sent to Stavanger, developed by hand (the machines won’t take it), and presto. Maybe my best accidental photography work as of yet. Most certainly not the most technically proficient work, but by far the most fun to shoot. Take  a look!

PS. for any locals reading, the wonderful photography shop is the tiny one right down from Pepper. I reckon he makes his living changing batteries in wristwatches these days.

New drawings

These two weeks at school was a bit of a relief from the usual staring-at-a-monitor-days, with a live drawing class. The images shown are watered-down china ink on paper, painted with a stick. Drawing neck bones for eight hours straight is a bit of neck strainer (no pun), so I ignored the model every now and then to practice some calligraphy, which the drawing stick was practically made for!

New looks!

syngende_elefant
Hooray! The brand new version of my site is now up and running!
I spent a lot of the summer building this thing. It might not like look a spaceship on top, but trust me, under the hood this thing is an intergalactic juggernaut. The whole header section is designed as a blank canvas, that funky elephant (made for an event in 2008) is just the starting point. More after the jump! Continue reading
